IfoEdit will now create the IFO and BUP files. Make sure that the “Same as source” checkbox is selected This file should be named “VTS_01_1.VOB”. Once it has finished you should have one or more VOB files in a VIDEO_TS folder inside "Fin" folder that you created previously, which are also already named correctlyĬlick “Create IFOs” button and open the 1st file VOB file from the folder that was created by VOBEdit (that is "Fin\VIDEO_TS"). If you renamed all files correctly, then Vobedit should process all the VOB files. VobEdit will start processing the files and you can see the progress bar moving. In the next dialog box, check that the number is 1 and next click OK. In this dialog you need to create new folder, let’s call it «Fin» (or you could create this folder beforehand) and point VobEdit to this newly created folder. Make sure you rename the files that have indexes higher than 9 to VTS_01_0XX, as in VTS_01_013 (not VTS_01_00XX – VobEdit will not see files named under such layout)Ĭlick open and open the first VTS_01_001.vob from «Mod\VIDEO_TS» Rename vob files in «Mod\VIDEO_TS» to VTS_01_01_01_003.vob and so on. Go the folder «Original», «VIDEO_TS» and copy only VOB files into «Mod\VIDEO_TS» You’ll see your DVD being copied with live preview.Ĭreate new empty folder, let’s call it «Mod» and create «VIDEO_TS» folder inside of it. Select the folder name (for the sake of the example let’s call it «Original»). This will present you with a dialog box where you can select the destination for the new DVD files. If it is, then select all tracks and select «No Compression» in the drop-down list. This will allow you to create custom layout and in the given case create a DVD structure containing only the clips.ĭrag and drop titles into “DVD structure” paneĬlick “Compression settings” tab and make sure “No compression” setting is selected under “Video” section. You can see that the layout of my disc is strange, where some of the clips (this is a concert DVD) are put into the “Extras” section. This will load the DVD files into the program and show the current layout as the DVD was authored originally in the “DVD Browser” tab. Go to: Open Files and navigate to the folder on the disk where you have the DVD files (VOB’s, IFO’s, etc) This will create a folder on the HD with all the VOB’s, IFO’s, etc files that represent a digital copy of the DVD. So another title to this solution would be "How to create proper DVD from VOB files".Ĭopy the DVD in question to the hard drive with the tool of your preference in file mode. After that it can be easily and properly ripped to MKV in any program. It all can be done using freeware tools and under 20-30 minutes, so I think it is worth trying.īasically what you need to do is to «re-author» the DVD so it has proper layout and structure. I have drawn up a guide of how to achieve the solution to given problem. As far as transcoding goes you can do them overnight in handbrake without the need for the disk. After searching the internet and reading forums and blogs for a few days, it looks like there is no simple “point-and-click” solution for this problem. With this workflow you can have 3-4 DVDs per hour ripped to you HDD. As far as the transcode step in handbrake goes you can set up a queue of jobs and then let your computer run them overnight. The big advantage for you of the MakeMKV + Handbreak workflow is your rip operation only requires you to visit your computer every 20m to rip each DVD to MKV. The process in handbrake for using MKVs as source is identical to using DVDs as source.Īll you are doing is doing the decryption and rip step separate from the encode. Handbrake will run MUCH faster when reading from a MKV file compared to reading from a encrypted DVD. You can rip your entire DVD library to MKVs on your HDD and then later have handbrake transcode the MKVs into your preferred format. That MKV file is playable but not very well compressed (It is a raw DVD rip of the title you selected). All MKV does is decrypt and rip the title you select and put the result in a MKV file. MakeMKV is like handbrake in regard to ripping.
